The BBC Summer Good Food Show is an annual five day event held at the NEC, Birmingham. It is a very popular show attracting over 140,000 visitors. The CGA joined forces with the Pepper Technology Group, which created more interest on the stand. We were adjacent to the Tomato Growers Association whose members have been attending this show for several years.
Our primary message to the public was: "fresh local produce available for at least 9 months of the year - if its not on the supermarket shelf, then ask the store manager why!". Tasting sessions went very well. We were all surprised how many people homed in on the cucumbers without being cajoled. Everyone, including our youngest visitor, agreed that these were the freshest and crispest cucumbers they had ever tasted.
Usually, it was so busy that it was hard to take a picture of the stand.....
Cucumber man (he is on the right of the picture below!) made a guest appearance and even featured on MasterChef – watch out for him on TV with tomato grower, Laura Holt.
